BTS’ Suga escapes disciplinary action following DUI fine: Here’s why

Suga bows to apologize after his DUI incident

Suga, the BTS member who was recently involved in a drunk driving case, will not face any disciplinary action due to his status as a public service worker.

On October 11, during a National Defense Committee audit at the National Assembly, Kim Jong Chul, the Commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration (MMA), revealed that the military service law does not apply the same way to public service workers as it does to active-duty soldiers.

He acknowledged the unusual condition, stating, “I don’t think it’s entirely appropriate that he wasn’t disciplined, but we are providing education and guidance.”

The Commissioner clarified that while active-duty soldiers can be penalised for offences like drunk driving—even outside of service hours—public service workers are judged by different criteria.

This announcement follows a summary order from the Seoul Western District Court on September 27, which fined Suga 15 million KRW for violating the Road Traffic Act

The artist was caught driving an electric scooter while under the influence in August, leading to the revocation of his license and a hefty fine.

Suga admitted to his mistake, expressing his ignorance of the law. He has since apologised to his fans, promising to act more responsibly.

Having enlisted in the South Korean military on September 22, 2023, Suga is currently serving as a public service worker and is expected to be discharged around 2025.

Billie Eilish dishes out feelings for Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan

Billie Eilish, who is currently on her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour, has only positive things to say about her pop industry peers, winning hearts with her response to a tricky question.

In a recent interview, the 22-year-old songstress and her brother Finneas, were asked to share their thoughts on the success of their fellow popstars including Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

The Birds of a Feather hitmaker was asked if she felt threatened by the rising artists in the interview with The Los Angeles Times but she responded with supportive remarks.

“Are you kidding me?” she replied to the outlet. “I’m so happy for these b—-es. It’s a crazy world when you get to the level they’re experiencing right now, and they’re doing great. Fans are drawn to them because they’re f—ing awesome.”

The Lunch singer also opened up about her difficult relationship to fame, in the interview, recalling an uncomfortable moment where a TSA agent was taking photos of her, which she explained as a situation of “power imbalance.”

“You can’t say, ‘Don’t take a photo of me’ to TSA,” Finneas added. “They’d be like, ‘Come into this room.’ They’re in charge.”

Even though, Billie noted, “These are the people who are supposed to keep you safe.”

The nine-time-Grammy winner shared that when she was first experiencing the height of fame, she didn’t know if her life would ever go back to normal, “I thought, this is just how my life is gonna be. I’ll never get to go outside again, and I’ll never feel like a person ever again. Every room is gonna be, ‘It’s Billie Eilish!’ and that’s gonna make me eventually kill myself.”

Billie came into music the industry as a really young artist and has achieved numerous nominations and awards for her music. Her recent album Hit Me Hard and Soft has been ranked in the top five positions in Billboard Hot 100 List.

Anna Kendrick gives insight into her first directorial debut

Anna Kendrick took on a new challenge with Netflix’s crime thriller, Woman of the Hour, directing and starring in the film based on serial killer Rodney Alcala’s true story.

Initially attached as an actress, Kendrick pitched herself for the director’s chair, emphasizing her willingness to step aside if necessary.

“I genuinely felt so strongly about the film that I just wanted to do whatever was best for the movie, and if that meant somebody else being in the director’s chair, I was fine with that,” Kendrick shared at the L.A. premiere.

Kendrick’s humble approach didn’t go unnoticed. “I think it was perhaps the most ambivalent pitch in the history of Hollywood because I can’t really do false confidence,” she joked.

After securing the director’s role, Kendrick sought advice from Paul Feig, known for comedies like Bridesmaids. “Funny enough, the first person I called was Paul Feig… I admire him so much as a filmmaker and collaborator,” Kendrick explained. Feig’s “tough love” approach proved invaluable.

The film’s success can be attributed to Kendrick’s collaboration with her cast and crew. “I was really surrounded by people who were incredibly talented and supportive, and they’re really the reason why it didn’t all fall apart all the time,” she acknowledged.

Fellow cast members praised Kendrick’s leadership. “She’s a great leader,” Daniel Zocatto (Rodney Alcala) said. Nicolette Robinson (Laura) added, “In this world, she’s a straight-A student.”

The film’s female perspective drew cast members to the project. Kelly Jakle (Sarah) noted, “I love that this story is told through the lens of the victims… it honors the victims.” Pete Holmes (neighbor) shared, “I’m the father of a daughter, and it seemed like something that needed to be told.”

Kendrick expressed her desire to direct again but is currently searching for a project that matches her passion for Woman of the Hour. “Right now, it’s daunting to try to find something that I am as passionate about as this,” she said.

Woman of the Hour premieres on Netflix on October 18.
