Punjab taking all possible steps for uplift of livestock sector: Ashiq – Pakistan Observer

Provincial Minister of Livestock and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani chaired a high-level meeting in Livestock Department Lahore, in which Chief Minister Punjab Livestock Card and the progress and timelines of the projects of distribution of animals to widows and divorced women of South Punjab were reviewed. Secretary Livestock Saqib Ali Atteel and President Punjab Bank Zafar Masood also attended the meeting.

Provincial Minister for Livestock and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani while addressing the meeting said that Chief Minister Punjab is taking all possible steps for the development of livestock sector, which will usher a new era of prosperity for livestock farmers.

On this occasion, the provincial minister maintained that there is need to ensure the timelines of livestock card and animal distribution projects among women. He endorsed that in this regard, there is need to speed up the advertising campaign through print, electronic and social media.

The Provincial Livestock Minister further added that 40 to 80 thousand farmers will be provided 4.5 billion rupees ,for the first time in history through livestock cards interest-free loan scheme. The limit of credit amount will be between 1 lakh 35 thousand to 2 lakh 70 thousand rupees. The condition of 5 to 10 animals is mandatory. Farmers will not get this money in the form of cash, but they will be able to buy Vanda, Silage and Mineral mixture with that amount.The aim of Livestock Card is to prepare the animals through Fattening for increasing the production of meet and then use it for the exports purpose. Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani highlighted that the role of women in the development of the livestock sector is of great importance.Chief Minister Punjab has initiated a scheme of providing 11,000 heifers among the widows and divorced women of South Punjab so they could be able to stand on their feets.That scheme is for the 12 districts of South Punjab. The provincial minister while issuing instructions to the Urban Unit said that they would conduct physical verification of women from the 12 districts of the South Punjab by assigning the duty of an official for one tehsil so that the work of verification of eligible women can be completed as soon as possible.

On this occasion, DG Livestock (Extension) Dr. Muhammad Ashraf told the provincial minister during the briefing that the now number of merchants for livestock card is 936 and 7 merchants per tehsil will perform their services. He said that so far about 27 thousand potential farmers and more than 2 lakh animals been identified for livestock card.

In the meeting, Additional Secretary Livestock Dr. Usman Tahir, Director General (Research) Dr. Sajjad Hussain, DG (Production) Dr. Muhammad Yusuf, Bank of Punjab Group Chief Corporate and Investment Nofal Dawood, PITB, Urban Unit Punjab and representatives of Social Protection Authority also participated.

KARACHI – Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reported a striking week, with flagship KSE-100 Index climbing by 1,951 points to close at 85,483.

This surge marks significant bullish trend as the index fluctuated within a range of 3,147 points throughout the week, reaching a high of 86,451 and a low of 83,303.

Investors were active, trading 2.61 billion shares, resulting in a weekly trading value of Rs148.62 billion. Additionally, the market capitalization saw a substantial increase, rising from Rs277 billion to Rs11.156 billion.

The bullish trend is further supported by an improving macroeconomic outlook and heightened interest in key sectors such as automobiles, cement, commercial banks, fertilizers, and oil companies, boosting overall investor confidence.

Jordan keen to expand trade ties with Pakistan: Envoy – Pakistan Observer

Maen Khreasat, Ambassador of Jordan in Islamabad has expressed keen interest to expand bilateral trade cooperation between Pakistan and his country, through enhanced bilateral cooperation across various sectors including tourism, Agricultural, tourism and health services.

He said that Jordan valued its historical and friendly relations with Pakistan and was keen to further enhance its trade ties with it for mutual benefit. The ambassador remarked this while talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by President Usman Shaukat, who called on him on Friday evening.

According to the details, the delegation which included Vice President Fahad Barlas, and EC member Falak Anjum discussed with the ambassador the matters related to bilateral trade, investment opportunities, networking & chamber to chamber connectivity and exchange of trade delegation to explore the potential cooperation between the both countries. RCCI President Usman Shaukat in his remarks reiterated RCCI’s commitment to facilitating joint ventures, promoting bilateral trade, and enhancing investment opportunities.

He highlighted the chamber’s readiness to assist in organizing business forums, exchanging trade delegations, and cultural exchange programs to strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two nations.

He further reiterated that RCCI would work tirelessly to support initiatives aimed at mutual growth and development, ensuring a prosperous partnership between Pakistan and Jordan.—APP

SCCI President seeks govt’s patronage to furniture industry – Pakistan Observer

President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Fazal Moqeem Khan on Friday said the furniture industry has an important role in economic stability and progress and stressed the need of giving full attention and government patronage to this sector.

He was addressing a reconciliatory meeting of two parallel furniture associations held here at the chamber house. SCCI senior vice president Abdul Jalil Jan and vice president Shehryar Khan and business community attached with the furniture industry were present at the meeting.

Fazal Moqeem said the furniture industry is on the decline in K-P and asserted unity and collective efforts to address all issues associated with this important sector. The chamber president asked furniture manufacturers to come up with a comprehensive plan to promote the sector. Fazal Moqeem assured to take up issues with relevant government departments and will address them amicably.

It is worth mentioning here that SCCI had played a role as a mediator and united furniture associations and exhibitors under the chamber platform and reviewed both reservations regarding holding of furniture expo.

The meeting developed a broader consensus and decided the furniture associations will be part of the upcoming expo in Peshawar and associations will be fully participated by displaying their products in the exhibition. This initiative of the chamber hasn’t only to remove apprehensions of people attached to the furniture business to some extent but it will also play an important role in ensuring equal share in business and will give a boost to local industry as well.—APP
