IHCBA rejects recent social media campaign targeting Justice Jahangiri

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Bar Association on Sunday denounced a recent social media campaign targeting Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.

In an official statement, the IHC Bar described the campaign as malicious and harmful.

In response to the controversy, the Bar Association’s Executive Committee scheduled a meeting for July 9 to address the issue.

According to the announcement, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri is recognized as a competent and diligent judge with a distinguished career as a lawyer and Deputy Attorney General. The Bar Association commended his dedication and professional achievements.

The Islamabad High Court Bar Association reaffirmed its commitment to judicial independence and autonomy, emphasizing the importance of supporting the judiciary against baseless attacks.

In response to a letter circulating on social media, purportedly from Karachi University’s controller of examinations regarding the law degree of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, and the subsequent filing of a reference with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), the IHC is expected to issue an official statement regarding the campaign against the judge.

The sources said that the IHC judges would convene a meeting on Saturday to discuss the matter.

One dead, 18 injured in blast at Swabi police station

Swabi: At least one person was killed and 18 sustained injuries in an explosion inside a police station in Khyber Pakhtunkwa’s Swabi district on Thursday.

According to the police, the explosion apparently occurred due to a short circuit, inside a depot on the first floor of the police station.

Rescue and firefighting teams reached the scene immediately and started shifting the wounded cops to the Bacha Khan Medical where emergency has been imposed.

The power blast affected the building which caught fire, however, it was doused following an immediate response from firefighting teams.

According to rescue officials, 15 wounded policemen have been shifted to the hospital.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took notice of the incident and ordered the inspector general and chief secretary to immediately reach the Swabi police station.

He also ordered them to present a report after ascertaining the genre of the explosion. He also asked authorities to ensure timely medical assistance to the injured.

KP’s Kurram clashes leave five more dead, 15 wounded on eighth day of violence

Kurran: Five more people were killed while 15 others were wounded after fresh clashes broke out between rival tribes in different areas of Kurram district on Friday. 

The clashes entered the eighth day, bringing the total number of casualties to 46 and 96 injuries, medics said. 

According to police, the clashes began after Boshehra tribes of upper Kurram started setting up bunkers on the lands of Ahmadzai tribes, with the dispute quickly engulfing other areas as well.

Ex-federal minister Sajid Toori acknowledged that routine activities was badly affected due to armed clashes, but hoped the situation would normalise soon, calling on people to solve their problems amicably.

Peshawar: A 10-year-old child lost his life in an explosion in a garbage dump in the Khazana area of ​​Peshawar.

As soon as the blast occurred, police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the blast site and cordoned off the area.

In this regard, the police said that the team of the bomb disposal unit has also reached the place of the explosion.

The police stated that the nature of the explosion, evidence, and other information are being collected while the body of the dead child has been shifted to the hospital.

Cop martyred, two dacoits killed in Chakwal police encounter

Chakwal: There was an encounter between the dacoits and the police, as a result of which two dacoits were killed while an official was also martyred in Chakwal.

According to the police, the police team had raided Ratta Kalar Kahar to arrest the proclaimed offenders, where two robbers were killed by the firing of their colleagues, while a policeman was also martyred in the exchange of fire.

According to the spokesperson of Punjab Police, Constable Tahir Shah of the elite force was martyred in the encounter with the robbers.

According to the spokesman, Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, while seeking a report of the incident from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi, said that it is the responsibility of the Punjab Police to support the family of the martyr and full cooperation will be given in this regard.
