Ryan Murphy’s reply to Erik Menéndez over ‘Monsters’ criticism

Ryan Murphy responded to Erik Menéndez’s criticism over his latest work for Netflix, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story.

The 58-year-old executive producer and creator of the Netflix true crime drama defended his portrayal of Erik, 53, and his 56-year-old brother Lyle Menéndez and their crimes after the former lambasted the platform for its depiction of their lives.

When questioned about his reaction to the statement, Murphy addressed Entertainment Tonight that he had “many things to say about that.”

“I think it’s interesting that [Erik] issued a statement without having seen the show,” he said. “I know he hasn’t seen the show in prison. I hope he does see the show. I think he sees the work that Cooper Koch [the actor who plays him] did.”

The Emmy Award-winning writer empathised that it must be “really, really hard” to see “your life up on screen.”

“If you watch the show, I would say 60 to 65 percent of our show, in the scripts and in the film form, center around the abuse and what they claim happened to them,” he explained.

“We do it very carefully, and we give them their day in court, and they talk openly about it, we present the facts from their point of view.”

Murphy said he and his team invested three years studying the Menéndez brothers and their story. He also mentioned that writing on sexual abuse for television and portraying “all points of view” can be controversial.

Model Jenny Shimizu on dating Madonna

Model Jenny Shimizu got candid on how it felt to date Madonna in the ’90s.

“I mean, you’re not gonna say no to Madonna in the ’90s,” the 57-year-old said in the last episode of the documentary series In Vogue: The 90s, which dropped on Hulu Friday, September 20. “Not only was it great feeling like a high-class hooker, because really it was.”

Shimizu rose to prominence in the early 1990s through her modelling profession. While employed as a mechanic, she got the opportunity to model for Calvin Klein in magazine commercials before rising to the runway.

Shimizu made history by becoming the first Asian model to walk for Prada and the first person of colour to open the show.

The diva shared that during the period she and the now 66-year-old Queen of Pop were dating, the latter would call her to meetup at extravagant global locations.

“You’d get a phone call like, ‘Hey, can you meet me at my Paris show? You’re in Europe, right?’ So I’d be like, ‘Yeah, I’m just finishing Prada. Right after Prada, I’ll catch a plane over,’” she shared in the doc. “And I would. I’d go over to her hotel, to the Ritz, at, like, 4 in the morning, [get private] and then fly back to Milan.”

However, as People reported, Madonna and Shimizu’s romance was pretty short-term.

Ellen DeGeneres on going to ‘therapy’ because of ‘hatred’

Ellen DeGeneres seems pretty affected by “all the hatred” the host received after being accused of creating a toxic work environment on her daily show and getting “cancelled”, which eventually sent her to “therapy”, as she in her last standup on Netflix.

“I was in therapy for a while trying to deal with all the hatred that was coming at me. It was not a common situation for a therapist to deal with,” DeGeneres said in the comedy special For Your Approval.

“At one point, my therapist said, ‘Ellen where do you get this idea that everyone hates you?’ And I said, ‘Well, New York Times, The Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly, I think Elmo may have said something recently on an episode of Sesame Street.”

DeGeneres continued, “She said, ‘Well I think you just need to avoid looking at the news, just avoid media.’ I said, ‘I am. I’m not looking at anything.’ But I would always know when something was going on because I’d start getting texts from friends saying thinking of you or sending love.”
