Tarar lauds China for helping Pakistan overcome energy crisis – Pakistan Observer

Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar on Sunday extended deep gratitude to China for helping Pakistan to overcome worst energy crisis faced by the country in the early years of previous decade.

Delivering his speech at the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan ceremony here, he said the friendship between Pakistan and China spanned over decades and many generations.

“The friendship between Pakistan and China is being passed down from generation to generation,” the minister said adding that the people of Pakistan and China had emotional attachment to each other.

Tarar remarked that Beijing had supported Islamabad in all circumstances and this friendship had gone through storms and difficult times successfully and proved unbreakable.

He said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was the manifestation of closeness and ideal friendship between the two countries.

“CPEC is not only a project for the prosperity of Pakistan and China, but also for the entire region,” the minister opined.

Energy projects including Sahiwal Coal power project, Thar Coal Project, Karachi Port Energy project were launched by China under CPEC.

He said in 2013, when Pakistan was facing worst energy crisis and 8 to 19 hours load shedding was a matter of routine, several energy projects were launched under CPEC and these projects helped Pakistan overcome energy shortage.

He maintained that journey of success from 2013 to 2018 was mainly because China helped Pakistan restructure its energy sector while bringing in good energy projects including nuclear, coal, hydro, solar energy projects as China believed that Pakistan’s energy crisis could be over by technological innovations, through diversification and restructuring of energy sector.

He said in 2018 GDP growth rate stood at 5.8 per cent and inflation was only 4 per cent.

The country’s economy now was on the way to improvement and China had played an important role in this regard.

The minister remarked that the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China was commendable as both the countries were going to start the next phase of CPEC.

He said in the second phase of CPEC, useful discussions were held during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chinse Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, Chinese leadership and Chinese companies who enabled Pakistan to not only overcome energy crisis but also propel economic growth and provide job opportunities to the people of the country.

He said it was a matter of pride for him that he was speaking on the eve of Chinese Prime Minister’s historic visit to Pakistan and it was a matter of joy and jubilation for people of Pakistan.—APP

LAHORE – The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) continued operations against illegal commercial buildings and commercialisation fee defaulters in Lahore.
LDA Town Planning Wing teams sealed over 24 buildings in Allama Iqbal Town and Mustafa Town.
The sealed premises include Meezan Bank, The Educators, a private clinic, a restaurant, a marriage hall, a grocery store and other businesses.
Per the press release issued by the LDA, Chief Town Planner I Assad-uz-Zaman supervised the operations carried out by the enforcement teams with the help of the Police.
As per the LDA officials, several notices were served to these buildings’ owners before carrying out the operations.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has directed continuing indiscriminate operations against illegal commercial buildings and commercialization fee defaulters in Lahore.

LDA completes digital mapping of 7000 illegal commercial buildings – Pakistan Observer

LAHORE – The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has completed digital mapping of over 7,000 illegal commercial buildings in Lahore.

The LDA will impose heavy fines on identified illegal commercial buildings in the provincial metropolis. Stringent action will also be taken on violation of SOPs during construction activities.

During a visit to the Gulberg scheme to review the working of enforcement teams, LDA Director General Tahir Farooq was briefed about surveys of illegal commercial buildings and digital mapping in Lahore. Chief Town Planner I Assad-uz-Zaman and Director Town Planning Zone-III Sidra Tabbasum briefed the DG about the ongoing digital mapping. They said that the survey teams were working daily. The DG directed expediting the process of digital mapping of illegal commercial buildings.

Meanwhile, LDA teams sealed two buildings in Gulberg for violation of SOPs during construction. The teams removed encroachments and construction materials from more than 10 properties.

PCMEA forecasts 15-20% increase in carpet exports after successful exhibition – Pakistan Observer

The Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) Chairman Mian Atiqur Rahman and Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmad have hailed the recent three-day international carpet exhibition as a resounding success, forecasting a 15-20% surge in carpet exports. They expressed satisfaction with the event’s outcome, citing robust participation from foreign buyers.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) for their unwavering support. We look forward to their continued collaboration in the future, which will be instrumental in propelling Pakistan’s carpet industry to new heights,” they expressed these views while addressing the review meeting regarding the international exhibition which was held in Lahore recently.

In the meeting, Pattern Chief Abdul Latif Malik, Chairperson of Carpet Training Institute (CTI) Ejazur Rehman, Senior Central Leader Usman Ashraf, Major (Rtd) Akhtar Nazir, Saeed Khan, Shahid Hasan Sheikh, Saadur Rehman, Umair Usman, Faisal Saeed Khan, Mahmood Ahmed were present in the meeting.

Pakistan Railways penalizes over 97 officials on corruption charges – Pakistan Observer

Pakistan Railways has held responsible and penalized over 97 officials of the department on corruption charges during the last five years, as a part of its efforts to control malpractices.

“Several steps are being taken to control corruption in Pakistan Railways which include introducing ticket vending machines and online reservation of tickets to avoid black marketing,” an official in the Ministry said.

The official said, “Pakistan Railways has established a task team to keep watch on any irregularities and check the attendance of staff in the organization.”

He said, “Ticketless campaigns through Special Ticket Examiners (STEs) groups and officers are being carried out on a daily basis in the divisions to check and charge such passengers with a penalty.”

“The payment of pension is being carried out through online banking system to facilitate the pensioners as well as to eliminate the ghost pensioners from the department,” he added.

He said, “All the auctions are transparently held through the designated committee and the deposited amount is being received through CDR duly verified by the concerned Divisional Accounts Officers (DAO).”
