Gavin Creel, Broadway star, dies at 48

Broadway just lost a star.

Tony-winning theatre actor and Broadway star Gavin Creel, who appeared in Hair, Hello, Dolly, Into the Woods and more, died Monday at his home in Manhattan of “metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma”, his publicist confirmed to the New York Times. He was 48.

Metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma is a type of cancer.

Creel, a Broadway veteran of 20 years, got honoured with his first ever Tony in 2017, winning the award for best featured actor in a musical for Hello, Dolly, and before that was nominated for Hair in 2009 and for Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002.

The actor also got himself a Grammy award in 2023 for best musical theatre album for the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods.

Creel first stepped onto the Broadway stage in 2002 with Thoroughly Modern Millie, where his performance earned him his first Tony nomination and the chance to work alongside Sutton Foster.

He later appeared in the original Chicago cast of Sondheim’s Road Show before making his Broadway return in the 2004 revival of La Cage aux Folles. In 2006, Creel made his West End debut as Bert in Mary Poppins.

Creel also has some TV credits under his name, like Eloise at the Plaza and its sequel, Eloise at Christmastime, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure and American Horror Stories.

Prince Harry sheds light on ‘emotional parenting’ journey amid King Charles feud

Prince Harry has seemingly tried to melt his cancer-stricken father King Charles’s heart with an emotional confession made during a meaningful speech at the 2024 WellChild Awards in London.

The Duke of Sussex opened up about the emotional parenting journey while addressing the special children and their “superhero parents, carers, siblings and professionals” for tirelessly performing their roles.

Harry said, “As a parent, I know a little about the emotional rollercoaster of parenting!”

He added, “But when I hear about the care many of you mums, dads, and family members provide, the level of round-the-clock care you offer, the skills you’ve had to learn and the battles for support that you fight every single day, I am truly in awe.”

Harry, who stepped down from his senior royal role in 2020 alongside his wife Meghan Markle, resides in Montecito with two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Since his exit, the former working royal made it to the bad books of his father with public attacks on his family.

However, now it is said that Harry might want to win back the monarch’s trust, especially during his battle with cancer.

Prince William is set to reclaim the spotlight which his estranged brother Prince Harry had while he attended the WellChild Awards on Monday in UK.

The Prince of Wales is now set to make a big appearance in London the very next day with regards to the Earthshot Prize.

William will be visiting ENSO, a 2023 Earthshot Prize Finalist, as the startup is making a big announcing a collaboration with cab-hailing apps for the UK and USA, via GB News.

Prince Harry keen to show family ‘royal role suits him’ amid UK return

Prince Harry seemingly took on a regal look as he returned to the UK for the third time this year for a special charity event.

The Duke of Sussex was attending the WellChild Awards on Monday where he was invited as a special guest of the evening.

According to a body language expert, Harry appeared confident and delighted to return to his home country, a stark contrast to his often nervous-looking demeanour in the US.

“With a large ‘Oh’ of happy recognition and anticipation, Harry looks relaxed and delighted on this UK visit,” Judi James told The Mirror. “Arriving using the kind of pace and intentional gestures to suggest keenness and authentic pleasure.”

She noted that Harry strides into the room, smoothing his tie once with his hand, which was “in contrast with the constant and very anxious-looking tie-smoothing and yanking he was seen performing in New York last week.”

James also suggested that Harry had a skip in his step given his interactions with children and adults.

“The royal role seems to suit him here and he leans into some very animated handshakes, looking eager to engage his hosts in friendly conversation,” she explained.

Moreover, James also pointed out that Harry appeared to have slipped back into his royal persona as he “adopts a royal body language.”

“The way he sustains and even re-boots an eye and mouth smile while being photographed shows he is keen to show his happiness here to the world,” she surmised.

The comments come amid reports that Prince Harry is hoping to make a return to royal duties as his father King Charles continues his cancer treatment.

However, there is no official statement issued on the matter.

Selena Gomez on starring in ‘Emilia Pérez’

Selena Gomez got candid on what it “meant” to get a chance to star in her new movie, Emilia Pérez.

“I really feel like this has been such a blessing in this movie,” she told Extra at the red carpet for the premiere of the movie at the 62nd Annual New York Film Festival at the Lincoln Center, on Monday, Sept. 30.

“I hope people understand the meaning behind it and enjoy it, and I couldn’t be more grateful to [director] Jacques [Audiard] for giving me this opportunity as an actor, so I hope this is just the beginning,” the Only Murders in the Building star told the outlet.

The 32-year-old singer continued, “I had never really performed the kind of dances that were displayed in the movie, but it was fun and it felt like a release, and screaming the songs and just being passionate was great.”

Gomez also opened up how much speaking Spanish meant to her, her family and her father, Ricardo Joel Gomez.

“It meant the world to me that he trusted me with that and it meant a lot to my family,” she said.

“I had coaches, yes, and we communicated every day in Spanish, but, yeah, my dad was even so proud. He was like, ‘You’re texting me, mija,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m texting you in Spanish.’ ”
