Michael Platt: UK’s richest ‘unknown’ man

Britain’s mystery richest man, who’s worth £14billion, lives a life largely under the radar as his own staff don’t even know who he is.

Michael Platt, 56, is the richest person in the UK and his immense fortune even surpassed well-known billionaires Sir Jim Ratcliffe and James Dyson, yet his identity remains shrouded in mystery as he stays out of the spotlight.

The publicity-shy hedge fund boss, who’s own receptionist hasn’t heard of him, once joked to a taxi driver that he’s the ‘highest-earning person in the world of finance.’

Michael’s anonymity comes to an end earlier this month in his inclusion (along with Ratcliffe and Dyson) in the top 200 of the Forbes’ annual list of the world’s most minted individuals, with a fortune estimated at £14.3 billion.

Back in 2000, Michael and businessman William Reeves co-founded investment firm BlueCrest Capital Management. Now, he’s the richest person in Britain, surpassing petrochemicals tycoon and Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe (£13.1 billion) and inventor James Dyson (£10.8 billion), who occupy second and third place in the UK wealth league.

Unlike most hedge funds, it uniquely operates as a personal investment vehicle for its employees and senior partners, instead of external clients, and has racked up billions of pounds for wealthy tycoon Michael.

He isn’t a fan of paparazzi or photoshoots either. Back in 2006, when Michael and William were interviewed by The Times, they refused to be photographed under any circumstances.

“They guard their privacy fiercely and detest their regular appearances in newspaper rich lists,” wrote financial editor Patrick Hosking.

Michael owns homes in London, Switzerland and the US, and has a Bombardier Challenger private jet to travel between them. He is also an art collector.

He shares two children with his ex-wife Helen Sanderson, whom he married in 1995. His eldest son Marcus, who is in his mid-20s, recently joined BlueCrest to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Why King Charles skipped Beatrice’s daughter celebration but honored Harry’s birthday

King Charles recently made headlines by celebrating his youngest son, Prince Harry, on his milestone 40th birthday with a heartfelt post on the Royal Family’s official social media channel.

However, the same fanfare did not extend to Princess Beatrice’s daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, who turned three on Wednesday.

While the Duke of Sussex received a warm birthday wish from the King, Sienna’s special day passed without any public acknowledgment from the Royal Family.

This decision may stem from Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s desire to keep their daughter out of the limelight and maintain a level of privacy for their young family.

As royal watchers speculate on the contrasting celebrations, it’s clear that the family is navigating the balance between public duties and personal choices in their approach to royal life.

Princess Beatrice is known for her low-key approach to social media, seldom sharing images of her daughter which reflects her desire for privacy.

In contrast, Harry received public birthday wishes from both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace on September 15, marking a significant moment for the Duke of Sussex.

This year’s celebration was particularly noteworthy, as it was the first time in two years that Buckingham Palace acknowledged Harry’s birthday in its posts.

Speculation among royal watchers suggests that this change may stem from a decision made by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who reportedly chose to publicly recognize the birthdays of non-working royals only when they end in a zero.

King Charles laughs off abdication rumours

King Charles III has left fans delighted with his latest outing in Scotland, seemingly sending rumours of abdication to rest with his stunning gesture during meeting with Angela Rayner.

The 75-year-old gave major update on his health as he appeared in good spirits during meeting with deputy Prime Minister Rayner at a special event.

The monarch met with representatives from the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit (SVRU), The King’s Foundation and The King’s Trust to discuss ways on how to tackle all forms of violent behaviour.

The monarch’s outing comes amid speculations that Prince William is quietly preparing to become next King of Britain.

The Prince of Wales is said to be ‘worried’ about his father and wants to take as much pressure off him as he can.

King Charles laughs off abdication rumours

The King’s increasingly ailing condition is causing huge alarm inside the royal family, as pressure grows for him to delegate more responsibility to the heir to the throne, an insider told In Touch Weekly.

“William is just as worried about his father and wants to take as much pressure off him as he can,” they added.

However, William and Harry’s cancer-stricken dad King Charles latest appearance has cleared the air about his future plans as he seems to be determined to continue his duty.

The King, at the event, heard reflection on how to identify the root causes of violence and how support can be increased for young people to stop them falling into a pattern of crime at Dumfries House in Ayrshire.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested on September 17 and denied bail twice

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, former Bad Boy rapper turned politician, is breaking his silence following the arrest of his ex-mentor, Sean “Diddy” Combs.

During a press conference in Belize, Barrow, who is now the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives, accused Combs of ruining his life.

“When I was an 18-year-old kid, just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud,” began Barrow. “I was defending [Combs] and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He pretty much sent me to prison,” he claimed.

Their history dates back to 1999, when Barrow was convicted of first-degree assault for a nightclub shooting in New York that left three people injured. Combs, who was also implicated, claimed self-defence and was acquitted of all charges.

However, Barrow served nearly a decade behind bars, being released in 2009 before his deportation to Belize.

Barrow continued of the disgraced mogul, “This is someone who destroyed my life, and who I forgave.” He explained that he did so for the “better interest of Belize” so the country could benefit from Combs’ investment and contributions to education.
